Aurora Cosmo Club Supports Diabetes Research

The Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora, “The Club That Fights Diabetes”, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization, has included the UChicago Medicine-Kovler Diabetes Center in their yearly grant distributions for the past five years, contributing over $15,000.00 towards diabetes research.
Peggy Hasenauer, Executive Director of the Kovler Diabetes Center, accepted this year’s Grant Check for $3,000.00 and spoke about Kovler’s research accomplishments during the past year. She placed emphasis on and gave a brief overview of Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), which is a life-threatening yet avoidable acute complication from Type 1 diabetes, and alarmingly, five or more episodes of DKA increase the risk of premature mortality by 23.4%.
The Aurora Cosmo Members will learn more about Diabetic Ketoacidosis on Thursday, April 21st, when they host a UChicago Medicine educational zoom session at the Oak Street Restaurant, in North Aurora, Illinois.
