Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora will celebrate 95 years of continued service to Aurora and it’s surrounding communities.
On Friday, June 3rd, 2022, the Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora will celebrate 95 years of continued service to Aurora and it’s surrounding communities. The Aurora Historical Society, 20 E.Downer Place, Downtown Aurora, will host the presentation at 7:30pm.
~~Our club’s historical journey began on Monday, June 6, 1927, when the Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora, held its Inaugural Banquet, at the Masonic Temple, where 65 civic-minded individuals became the Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora, Illinois.
~~The Edna Smith Children’s Home, also known as the Juvenile Protective Association, was the club’s first major project that lasted through the late 1950’s, with our club providing Christmas parties with gifts, Easter egg hunts, summer camps, day trips, egg and milk needs for all 40 children, plus three entries into the annual soap box derby.
~~Beginning in 1954, through the 1970’s the club’s major project became the Aurora Historical Museum, as the cry went out by Cosmopolitans to “Save the Tanner House”.
The entire membership became “Life Time Members” of the Aurora Historical Society, as well as any new member, who joined the club. The project began with plumbing and electrical repairs, interior decorating, exterior maintenance, including grounds restoration, then a complete cataloging of all items in the building.
